Ø The DBI Solution Architect supports the comprehensive high-level architecture, functionality, economics and architecture compliance of solution options for Cargill businesses and functions. This position works closely with the DBI Lead Architect, DBI Solution Architects, Enterprise Architecture Architects and key stakeholders to determine requirements for solution planning and development. This position develops solution architectures at a global, regional and project levels in collaboration with other architects and subject matter experts from Cargill's business units and functions.
Ø The DBI Solution Architect is a skilled professional who understands both technical and functional design and brings perspective from all architecture domains (process, application, data, technology and security) into the solution design in support of Cargill business and functional portfolio capabilities. This position ensures solutions developed are aligned to enterprise architecture standards and principles, leverage common solutions and services, and meet the financial targets (cost and benefits). This position is accountable for solution evaluation and early-phase project estimates which contribute to the business case.
Ø The DBI Solution Architect position is also responsible for staying current with emerging business and technology trends, promoting the 'art of the possible', and driving innovation investments throughout Cargill. This role is able to facilitate the difficult conversations involving balancing corporate strategies and local business requirements. This requires an ability to see multiple perspectives, steer discussions towards fact-based comparisons, and drive significant net value for the enterprise.
Ø The DBI Solution Architects, as a team, own the creation, integration, maintenance and integrity of the Cargill DBI architecture for all solutions, encompassing global business capabilities enabled by the Cargill enterprise application landscape.
Required Qualifications
o Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or equivalent experience
o 7+ years of Business Intelligence architecture, development and/or management experience
o Experience working in a fast paced and challenging environment, with multiple complex projects going on at one time
o Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex issues
o Experience performing design and development reviews
o Experience balancing priorities between multiple complex projects concurrently
o Demonstrated ability to define architectural concepts and standards
o Experience in Unix or Linux environments (e.g., ssh and standard commands)
o Understanding of Big Data technology; current on new ideas and tools
o Good understanding of the Hadoop architecture and ecosystem
o Experience working with the Cloudera distribution of Hadoop
o Experience with Sqoop, Streamsets and Kafka
o Experience with Spark, Hive, Impala.
o Experience working with front end visualization tools like Power BI, Tableau, and Business Objects.
o Experience with SQL languages
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills
o Proficiency in data modeling concepts
o Business fluency in English
Principal Accountabilities:
· 75% Architecture Planning, Design and Development
• Develops and maintains DBI solution architecture by leading solution definition, solution architecture reviews, and solution selection efforts
• Acts as a part of the broader Cargill Architecture community to define and execute architecture processes
• Develops and maintains conceptual DBI solution architecture for Cargill businesses and functions' portfolios
• Responsible for understanding the strategy across businesses and functions on the capabilities provided within their portfolio and translating that into an architecture plan
• Responsible for the DBI solution architecture for all business and functions' capabilities and associated roadmap
• Responsible for governance to the DBI architecture plans for the portfolios
• Ensures portfolio DBI solution architecture aligns with Enterprise Architecture standards/principles and patterns
• Provides strategic consultation and recommendations for data and business intelligence design/architecture
• Provides support and consultation for detailed design, deployment and production support
• Comfortable spanning multiple project at the same time
• Involved in complex, high risk, high visibility projects and new technology enablements
• Responsible for creation of high-level estimates for prospective DBI solutions as part of the Cargill IT Demand Management Process
10% Architecture Assurance
o Manage adherence to defined standards throughout the design, development and implementation processes
o Review new projects and architecture solutions, ensuring they are aligned with the enterprise architecture and meet financial targets
o Champion data as a corporate asset, ensuring the value realization of the investments Cargill is making in the data and information areas are captured
10% IT Innovation & Delivery
o Maintains extensive knowledge of industry trends, and utilizes this knowledge to educate both IT and business stakeholders on opportunities to build better target solution architectures that support and drive business decisions
o Drives improvement of architecture methodologies and services. Supports implementation, improvements and proper utilization of architecture tools. Ensures the quality of architecture assets, and keeps them up-to-date. Develops and maintains architecture metrics
o Participates in routine and non-routine construction, automation, and implementation activities, ensuring successful implementation with architectural and operational requirement are met
o Provides technical oversight to others resolving complex technical issues
5% Business Partnership
o Work with businesses to establish clear connections between business goals and strategies, process, data and technology investments required to achieve them
o Partner with the business leadership to understand how data will be leveraged as a competitive advantage and promote architectural methods and solutions to enable business value (e.g. using big data to drive predictive analytics and improve the customer experience)
o Provide recommendations for business capabilities, data and business intelligence design, interfaces during the design and ongoing care of solutions
o Regularly interface with other architects, analysts, data engineers, business relationship managers and enterprise subject matter experts to understand and evaluate business and functions' portfolio capability needs
o Assist in the definition of the architecture and technology opportunities of the portfolios based on new and emerging technologies
